Oceanus was a Greco-Roman deity who was a water serpent. He was said to surround the earth with his body while holding His tail in His mouth so as to create a continuing barrier of water at the outer limits of the world.
Oceanus was wedded to the primal sea goddess Tethys or Thetis. His name meant "He who belongs to the Swift Queen." Oceanus was often confused with Python, Neptune, Taaut, Poseidon & Ouroborus.
